Ruby the vizsla is 3 years old and a nice age of maturity for a portrait. There is some thing very dignified about the graphite portraits. My personal favorite is the 3/4 angle as seen in this portrait. The beauty of art is that if the photo is not quite perfect with imperfection shown on the dog, I can eliminate or change things. In the photo, Ruby had allergies and a runny eye. Also, the flash reflected in her eye so I needed to make a change to that as well. I also “opened” her eye up slightly. Here is the finished result.
Just for comparison I wanted to include the portrait of Ruby in Conte’. I used this as a donation for a fundraiser for the Petaluma Animal Service Foundation event in 2013.

Hi Lesley,
I came across your drawing of Ruby and am very taken by it. I am impressed that you are able to include emotion in your drawings. I am wondering what your rates are. We have two dogs with lots of personality and — if possible — it may be very cool to have a drawing done of them. Do you work from several pictures? I hope all is well for you! Michael
Hi Michael, Great to hear from you and thank you for the comment. I have a variety of prices and medium. If you like the graphite with one dog the price is $350. I give a discount for the second dog. The price would be $300. If you have a great photo of the dogs together and would want a simple background the price is $495. If you have any special occasions coming up I know of several husbands that have put their wife to tears with such a heartfelt personal gift. If you want to see other options check out the “portrait options” section. On another note – how is the home school computer program going? I thought it was so clever and cool!
Hi, thanks for the information — I will let you know… I am no longer with the virtual school and am no longer doing school administration. I started teaching again and could not be happier — I much prefer working directly with students. In the fall I will be teaching high school math at a college prep charter school. Overall, life is good. I hope you and your husband are well! Peace, Mike
Hi Mike, I’m glad you are working with students directly. You have a such an “easy going” way that students probably feel very comfortable and relaxed. It’s so good though that you tried something different. It helps to clarify what you really want and like. If you didn’t try the virtual school stuff you’d always wonder “what if…”. Thanks for inquiry about the art. I’m considering an option of a slightly smaller head size for the graphite pieces and the watercolor/color pencil pieces. This way it’ll know a couple hours off the time and this will reduce the price by $80 for the graphite. It’ll still be just as detailed. Keep in touch. Lesley
