Recently I added a new style of pastel painting to my pieces. It is only new to me, but not new to the art world. As I have mentioned before I love to expand my knowledge and learn new things in life. I have been taking an on going art class from a very accomplished pastel artist. So far, I have done several pieces with this new technique. Orbit, an 11 year old poodle/jack russell mix was the first close up head portrait I have done in this style. I was very pleased with the result. As far as the composition itself, I pictured his little happy face poking into the matte and frame from the side as though he is looking into a window. There is so much detail in the dog itself that I did not want to distract from the dog by doing anything to the background paper. The paper is naturally this warm color. This was a gift from a husband to a wife for her birthday. I hope she is happy with the surprise.

Hi Lesley,
First, let me tell you how much I love the pastel picture of Orbit! It’s just incredible how you captured Orbit’s look but even more so his overall essence and personality. Friends and family we show the portrait to are just stunned and amazed—-I wish you could hear the comments. Thank you so much for creating such a wonderful piece of art of our furry family member, we will cherish it always.
