Dog buddies, seen here in color pencil portraits, can come in the most unlikely combinations. These two are no exception. Gunner may look familiar since he was already featured in an earlier post and his handsome mug can also be seen on my new business cards. He is a hulking 100 pound mastiff mix while his new little brother, Rusty is a fisty 15 pound chihuahua/dachshund cross. His owners, who are big supporters of adopting from the Humane Society introduced me to their latest addition, Rusty, who they rescued from an appointment to be euthanized.
Apparently Rusty didn’t get along with other dogs. I think after Rusty saw that his new roommate was 10 times his size, that maybe he should learn to get along. Plus, his owners are very good leaders for both dogs. I was introduced to Rusty the day they brought Gunner for his photo session in my back garden. The owners wanted the two separate portraits to be close to real-life size of the dogs. Gunner’s was the largest portrait I have done and Rusty’s was one of the smallest. They plan on having them framed to hang on the wall next to each other which should look great. I hope to share a photo of this in this blog when they are up on the wall.

We LOVE our portraits that so faithfully capture these two wonderful dogs. Neither photo really does the original justice. Leslie exactly drew Rusty’s enormously reflective eyes–you can see Leslie and my figures leaning in as she took the photograph. What a talent.
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you are happy! I’d love to see how things look after they are framed. Your dogs are adorable! Sincerely, Lesley
