Taz
Behind this handsome face is a strapping 90lb. dog that loves to duck hunt with one of his owners. Taz is 12 years old, but you’d never know it to look at him. The wife decided to have a portrait done for her husband. After viewing several photos I thought this over the shoulder look was a great pose. She had requested the finished piece to be 11×14 frame so the head itself was 6×7 inches. I always save space around the head/neck for matte as well. Airdales are a breed that require the hair to be clipped. So, some of the shots were of him with a shorter coat and some with this longer coat showing the characteristic curls. When I began the piece I found that although the curls were much more challenging to draw, they had more interest for a piece than the short cropped hair. So, in went the curls.
